Street Tacos Howe: Tacos, Pupusas & Friday Tamales
Street Tacos Howe is a small, family-run taco trailer listed at 108 W. O’Connell St. in Howe, and it’s worth knowing for three things: tacos with a punchy green salsa, pupusas on the same board as the gorditas, and tamales on Fridays. It opens early enough for breakfast burritos, it’s a quick hop off US-75, and the number to call is (903) 819-4930. Restaurantji shows it at 4.8 stars from 31 ratings.

What to order at Street Tacos
Start with the tacos. The business’s own order card lists lengua (beef tongue), chicken, asada, barbacoa, chicharrón, and carnitas, and reviewers have singled out the al pastor and the carnitas. In photos posted for the trailer, the tacos come street style with onion, cilantro, and green salsa, with radish, cucumber, and a grilled jalapeño on the side. Restaurantji’s customer favorites are the taco plate, pupusas, and tamales, so that’s a safe first order for a table.

The salsas are the real reason people talk about this place. One reviewer on Sirved called the verde good but the red “great,” with a smoky heat they were still putting on everything at home weeks after a 30-taco order. Another called the salsa verde “perfect.” If you like heat, ask for both and decide for yourself.
Pupusas, plates, and Friday tamales
Pupusas are what set Street Tacos apart from the usual taco stop. They’re thick, griddled masa cakes stuffed with fillings, a Salvadoran staple you won’t find at most taco stops. Reviewers describe them as big portions at a good price, and they show up on the trailer’s menu board right next to tacos, burritos, gorditas, and quesadillas.

If you’re hungrier, the board also lists a taco plate, gordita plate, flautas plate, tamal plate, and enchiladas plate. For kids there’s a kids’ quesadilla, chicken tenders, and French fries, plus wings in BBQ or hot by 5, 10, or 20 pieces and papas locas. Tamales get their own day: the order card calls out “Friday tamales,” so plan a Friday stop if that’s what you’re after.

Breakfast in Howe
Street Tacos is also a morning stop. Online listings agree it opens at 8 a.m., and the trailer advertises breakfast burritos made fresh, with fillings like chorizo, potatoes, sausage, ham, and bacon, all served with cheese and green or red salsa. One reviewer’s advice for travelers sums up the location well: if you’re on 75 and want real tacos, “exit in Howe for this diamond in the rough.”
Good to know before you go
- Call ahead. Closing times differ from one online listing to the next, so call (903) 819-4930 to confirm today’s hours and exactly where the trailer is before an afternoon run.
- Order by phone. The order card says “Order by phone” in English and Spanish, which helps for big family orders.
- Ask about prices. The menu board in posted photos doesn’t show prices, and one reviewer mentioned having trouble with that, so just ask at the window.
- Bring cash just in case. Online payment details for the trailer are inconsistent.
